The War On Democracy by John Pilger

Today, I wanted to observe the OTHER 9/11 .... in 1973, when the U.S. backed coup overthrew the government of Chile. I did not find a good film on that topic alone. But this film reviews all the democracies that were toppled by the U.S. government. Chile begins at minute 47. You can follow this with the Shock Doctrine, and the story of how the "Chicago Boys" showed up with "the Brick" to install free market reforms with Chile's new fascist government. It make me think that if Obama was to really fight for serious reform, the same kind of coup could happen here. 90 min. Download here.

Mohamad Atta and the Venice Flying Circus

With the anniversary of 9/11, it is a good time to post this abridged version of Daniel Hopsicker's investigation of the sleepy town of Venice, Florida. He uncovers the strange connections between the terrorists, the owners of the flight schools, corporate fraudsters, intelligence operatives, and drug traffickers. The Wobblies

It's Labor Day weekend, yet few Americans are aware of the long history of struggle fought by the Labor Movement to earn us such things as the 8 hour day, the 40 hour week, and the middle class lifestyle we take for granted. We are now at risk of losing all of it, as the ruling elite prepare to take it all back. The most radical and dedicated labor union was the Industrial Workers of the World, Know as the Wobblies. They believed in one big union that would unite against the exploitation of capital. The surviving and still-fiery Wobblies -now in their 70s, 80s, and 90s, tell the story of workers who took the ideals of equality and free speech seriously enough to die for. 90 min. Download here.

This Is My Home- The Ethnic Cleansing of New Orleans

The anniversary of Katrina has come, and the poor of the city are still in the storm. Undamaged public housing has been intentionally destroyed, to drive out the poor and make a killing in real estate deals. This is a clear example of the "Shock Doctrine" described by Naomi Klein: the rich will use the shock of a natural disaster to dispossess the vulnerable poor. Examples can be seen around the world, but the media shows little interest after the storms have passed. 22 min. download here.

GHOSTS OF ABU GHRAIB

The investigation of CIA torture is a farce. By ignoring the chain of command, we repeat the "bad apples" defense of the Bush regime. We know that torture does not provide accurate intelligence. But torture is VERY effective at generating false confessions to justify political and military actions. It is also effective at terrorizing political opposition. These are the only reasons for torture. It is one of the worst crimes against humanity and our government is clearly guilty. If we fail to prosecute and punish those responsible, these policies will become standardized. At some point you may find yourself in an American Abu Gharib.
This film presents all the evidence needed to prosecute the entire Bush administration. If Obama blocks prosecution, the crimes will continue. 78 min. Download here.
